New Store Hours

Winter hours are now in effect at Privies & Prims in Burnsville, NC. We'll be open Wednesday-Saturday 11:00-4:00.
I'll be spending lots of time at home making new prim goodies to get ready for spring and summer shows.
And of course, I'll simply have to spend some time going out to lunch with the girls. :)

Stay warm and enjoy the calm after the storm!

Doll parts & Snowmen in the snow!

I've been wanting to make some more primitive folk art dolls, but I had to do other things for Christmas. Now that the rush is over, I can do things I want to instead of what I have to.
My doll inventory has been pretty low since I had some good sales and no time to replace them. I spent a couple hours the other night cutting out doll bodies and can't wait to get working on them! Some will be black, some will be white. All will be coffee stained. I hung some out in the sun today after they soaked in a coffee/vanilla mixture for 2 days. Should smell yummy!
I'm using patterns by Chestnut Junction, Prim & Proper Folks, and Crows Roost Prims. I think there are 6 all together that I've cut out. Be watching for them soon!

While out and about around Burnsville, I saw these two unique snowmen and wanted to share them with you.

Enjoy!

Primitive Christmas Greetings!

Wishing you and yours a very merry CHRISTmas and many blessings in the new year!

If someone doesn't believe in the birth of Jesus as our Savior, what are they celebrating on Christmas Day???

Baby's First Christmas ~ sweet photos

Meet Lauren & Lirial on their first Christmas Eve!
Both sweet little girls are 6 months old.

Lauren is a miracle baby that came into the world a bit early and only weighed around 2 pounds. She is the granddaughter of my friend Susan.

Lirial is the baby of my parent's neighbors and my parents are just as thrilled as if she was their very own granddaughter!

Enjoy the little things this Christmas! Sometimes the little things are the best & most important things.

FOOTHILLS FALL FESTIVAL

Has anyone ever been to the Foothills Fall Festival in Maryville, TN? I'm considering applying for a booth there. Since I will have to stay over there for 4 days, I would like to know if it's as big as I hear it is. I've been told that about 150,000 people attend it!
If you've been there as a shopper, or vendor, please contact me and let me know how it was.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Privies & Prims will be open 11:00-4:00 for last minute shoppers. I'm going to breakfast with the girls in the morning, so I may be open just a bit earlier than 11:00

"Christmas is what's in the room if you stop opening presents and listen."

We're Open Again!

Finally I got out of the house today for the first time since Thursday! A day or two at home is ok, but then I start getting antsy to get out. :) There's still lots of snow in Burnsville, but most of the shops have reopened and shoppers are out in full force buying Christmas gifts! It was great to see so many people in town.

This poem was posted in my etsy group forum today and I wanted to share it with my readers. Enjoy & don't forget to pray for our soldiers.

A *New* Christmas Poem

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER IN IRAQ , LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
'SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE, MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

Tooth Fairy Pillow for the prim baby!

Just listed these cute little Tooth Fairy Pillows for the prim baby and mums! Free Shipping on this one. Great baby shower gift for the mommy that decorates with primitives. :)

Burnsville Snowed In!

As you can see, I won't be opening today either. The one photo shows my driveway and the unplowed road. I'm told the police went through Burnsville yesterday and told all the businesses to close at noon. Sad for the shoppers but my, what a beautiful view I have of the snowy mountains!

Snow on the Mountain!

I took this photo at 3:00pm today and it's still coming down! Privies & Prims is closed today and if it keeps coming down like this, I'll probably be closed tomorrow too. I WILL be open on Monday since it's Christmas week and I just know that there's some last minute shoppers out there! I'll have my new primitive ornaments finished by then since I'm snowed in up on this mountain. Christmas is almost here!!!

Am I making any progress???

I moved some furniture around the other night. The craft/guest room is now pretty crowded! And, VERY messy!

But, I made room on the table for my sewing machine and started some snowmen. I had bought a cool pattern from Barefoot Primitives and decided to make them now even though it's a week from Christmas. Snowmen can be left out all winter! I got them grunged up last night and worked on their hats. Now to paint the faces and attach the noses!

I've also been working on some angels, snowmen, and primitive stitcheries. Nothing finished, but I'm working on it!

Not sure when the house will be all put together, but it will get there. I keep telling myself that it's ok for it not to be organized. Life still goes on and since I'm not doing any holiday entertaining, it really is ok. I keep telling myself that it's ok for everything not to be in it's place. All the painting will get done in due time. It really is ok.

Life doesn't stop for me to get my house together. Christmas is a week away and life is more important than housekeeping. Keep that in mind. :)
Jesus is with us all year. He and family are so much more important than having a perfect house!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

My Primitive Christmas Tree

Many years ago, I made Christmas ornaments with a scroll saw. Lots of work and I sold them way too cheap! I kept lots for myself and enjoy bringing them out each year to put on my tree.

ALL the ornaments on my tree are handmade except the "baby's first Christmas" ornaments for each of my two sons and one that says "grandson". Even the snowgirl angel doll on the top is made by me. My oldest son is 33 and my younger son is 17. The grandson ball was given to my oldest son from his paternal grandmother who has since passed away. One day when he gets married, I'll pass it on to him for his family tree.

My favorite ornaments are the angel with the tree and manger which is made to look like a pull toy, the "snowflakes 4 sale", and the sectional prim tree with the separate pieces nailed to it.

It's hard for me to believe that I used to put all that time into the ornaments! Most of the ornaments I make now are stitchery and it's so much faster! And, I don't have to worry about cutting my fingers off!

I've put together a slide show below of the ornaments on my tree that I have made. It's not all of them, but a good bit of them.

Enjoy!

Dachshunds loving new home!

My two dachshunds, Shorty & Annie are loving their new home! My brothers, father, son and nephews built a great deck for the dogs to get to their new yard. They even made the steps a bit shorter in height to accomodate the dogs short legs! Thanks guys for the surprise gift!!! Dad came up with the idea and "volunteered" the guys for the day after Thanksgiving. Free labor! The doggies are lovin' it. :)

Annie has a new bed to destroy and her and Shorty have both discovered how soft the back of the loveseat is!

Christmas on Main Street in Burnsville, NC

Lots of stores in Burnsville have decorated for the holidays and I've taken a few photos to share with you. This is a true small town in the mountains of western NC. Tomorrow is our Christmas Parade and next weekend is my Christmas Open House at Privies & Prims.

I haven't decorated my store yet. With being sick and moving to a new home, I just haven't got to the decorating yet. As soon as I do, I'll post some photos. :) I've got the ideas, just need the time and energy to follow them through.

Some Thanksgiving Fun!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

In all seriousness though, be TRULY thankful for all that God has blessed you with. If you've got large thighs, be thankful that you have food to eat!

Count your blessings, not your money.

For true happiness, want what you have.

Be blessed!!! And, be a blessing to others. :)

Ornament Show was a good one!

I met lots of new people at the Christmas Ornament show yesterday in Burnsville. The turnout was great and I sold lots of ornaments!

Here's some photos I took to share with you. There were 32 tables of crafts! For the crafters, it's like a reunion each year. In a small town, we all know each other. :)
There was this cute little boy that was determined he was going to fit a pillow into a stocking! He was REFUSING any help. :)
