Looking for a primitive photo screensaver and can't find any? Here's what I do.

I do a google search for "primitive Christmas", "Christmas barn", etc. Whatever you want in your photos. Open the photos to full size and right click. Save them into a photo album titled "screensaver". Then set the album to be your screensaver. That's it!

I just saved some photos that prim friends on fb posted of their decorating. You're not selling them, or printing them, so it should be fine.

Have fun looking! And, the best part is that you can add or delete or change theme anytime you want.

moving to PA!

After being on the market for a year, my house is finally under contract! If all goes through as planned, we will be living in Lititz, PA before Christmas!

Closing date is set for Nov. 18th and as we all know, anything can happen. I'm hoping it doesn't. :)

I grew up in Delaware County, PA just east of Lancaster. I moved to NC in 1999 from Dover, DE and now it's time to go back. But, I wanted to move to a tourist area. Lancaster County has the laid back lifestyle I love and it's also central to New York, Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore, etc. Lots of cool day trips!

I decided in summer of 2010 to move to Lancaster County and started looking at small towns on the internet. I fell in love with Lititz online and when I went there in June of 2010, it was a definite that that's where I wanted to live. I went back in July 2011 and still love it. It's got the small town feel, but it's still close to everything.

Can't wait!

Still waiting to move to Lititz in Lancaster County, PA. My house has been for sale since October 2010. I started out at $144,000 and last night I dropped the price to $124,900. There's a bit of a rush now since I got my approval letter yesterday for a USDA mortgage in Lancaster County. It expires after 30 days, then I can get only two 30 day extensions. I've already had one certificate expire at Christmas, and it took this long to get through the process for another. If I don't sell before this one expires, I'll have to sit and have a heart to heart with God. ;-)

My son and I are really excited about moving to PA. There is little to no opportunity here for people that need to work and even less opportunity for my son that will be going to college for Graphic Design. There are about 5 jobs listed for our entire county at the unemployment office. We live in a small mountain town with less than 2,000 people. The nearest mall or chain restaurant is 45 minutes away. Walmart is 20 minutes away. We are ready to move!

On the other hand, if you're retired, it's a fantastic place to live. Gorgeous mountains, the best people, super low crime rate, quaint shops downtown, etc. Oh, I guess I should include that we live in Burnsville, NC. 45 minutes from Asheville, NC where the Biltmore House is located. I've lived here almost 12 years and I've never been to the Biltmore House. Not primitive enough for me. I'd rather see Abe Lincoln's cabin. :-)

That's all for now. I'll try to keep ya'll updated a little better. Please do check out my etsy shop for some great deals. I had framed punch needle art priced at $38 and lowered them to $21.95! Must clear those shelves in the shop to make room for new stuff.

This year, I will be selling snacks at craft shows instead of my primitive crafts.

I'm trying to decide whether to sell popcorn or cotton candy.

Help me decide by voting for the one that you would be more likely to purchase at a show.

The verdict is in....almost everyone voted for popcorn, so popcorn it is! I'll be purchasing a popcorn machine this Spring and popping up a storm in the summer at shows!

Primitive Tissue Box Cover & Church Dolls ~finished!~

I got some crafting done this weekend. I'm becoming quite the "homebody", not wanting to go out anywhere, being cozy and comfy at home. Especially with all the snow we've had here.

I bought the paper mache tissue box cover probably a year ago. Finally decided what to do with it!

I made it into a pattern with instructions that will work for any size box. Perfectly prim!

Today I finished another project that has been waiting patiently in the craft room. My sewing machine has been waiting to be working right for about a month. I got the tension figured out today and finished up my primitive church doll roll. I love it!

I'm not a quilter, but I joined a Quilt Guild to meet new friends. This poem was in our recent newsletter and I wanted to share it with you~~~

I Think God is a Quilter

I think God is a quilter
Who takes His needle and thread
To piece our world from nothingness

Christmas craft show & Trash to treasure Christmas tree

Today I want to share with you what you can do with some thrift store and dollar store finds.

I found some Christmas balls at a thrift store that were the cheap, satin string ones that fray really bad. I think they were .25 or .50 cents for a bag. I tore homespun strips and hot glued them to the balls, then coffee stained them and dried them in the sun. Some of the balls I covered with Christmas fabric, and some with homespun in Christmas colors.

Another thing I like to do that has been a good seller for me is buy the packages of red and white twisted plastic candy canes from the dollar store. I cover them the same way as I did the Christmas balls.

The Christmas cat nodder is made with a rusty bedspring that I got off www.freecycle.org. His mustache is llama wool. I used to buy shipping tags to use as my hang tags, but they were kind of pricey. Now I cut up manilla file folders and soak them in coffee till they're soft, then dry them in the sun. I got a pile of folders at a thrift store, so that's much cheaper than buying ready made tags!

Look around the Christmas section in your thrift store or dollar store and use your imagination!

Now, to save money at the grocery store, shop early in the morning and get the marked down meats. Check out the prices on this meat. It's less than 1/2 price!

Making primitive Christmas crafts

I've been busy all day crafting which is one of my favorite things to do, but it's time to quit for the night. I AM TIRED!!!

Here's some things I've finished. Some have been in a box for 2 years waiting patiently for me to finish them, and some are new.

It's out of the box!!!!! This star and it's twin waited 2 years to be finished! (maybe 3 years???) Anyway, it was a long time.

Not Christmas, but prim perfect anyway. :)

The Mammy make-do isn't Christmas of course, but she was in the box of things to finish, so I did!

I saw these on someones blog with a tutorial, so I made some. Sorry, I don't remember who it was.

She's not really Amish, but she's faceless like the Amish dolls. I doubt they would wear a dress with the printed fabric though. :)
I LOVE the fabric I used for her dress. It is sooooo perfectly prim! And for her Christmas tree, I got a mountain laurel (rhododendron) branch from my neighbor's yard. (we won't tell her) No worries though, it was already fallen. :)

Annual Christmas Ornament Festival is coming November 20th

Mark your calendars and be sure to come by the Burnsville Town Center on Saturday, November 20th from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Graham Children’s Health Services will be hosting the 8th Annual Christmas Ornament Festival.

Admission to this wonderful event is free. 30 local artists will be showcasing their work and it is the perfect opportunity to do some holiday shopping without having to deal with shopping malls and long lines.

There will be activities for kids throughout the day. Story hour will be on the stage at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Photos with Santa and crafts will be available throughout the day. There will also be local musical performances and baked goods for sale.

Graham Children’s Health Services has made many valuable contributions to the community over the years. Accomplishments include the construction of Kid Mountain and Ray-Cort Skate Park, creation of Toe River Dental Clinic in Bakersville, implementation of Tar Wars, a tobacco prevention program, establishment of Centro de Enlace, and recently, the renovation of the old Burnsville gym. Your support of this event will help Graham Children’s Health Services continue their work in the community.

Pumpkin Carvings and Mischief Night!

Last night my son and I went to a community event about 15 minutes from our home. The community of Celo, NC. Celo is known for it's fantastic artists and this weekend, they got to show their talent in carving pumpkins. After the pumpkins were carved, they were lined up on the walls of a bridge and lit with tea light candles. What an awesome sight!

Some people were staying in their car and riding across the bridge slowly. We got out and walked and I would say that's the only way to see them!

After seeing the pumpkins, we walked up to the Celo Community Center and had some yummy chicken chili! After getting our tummys full and warmed up, we went back out to the bridge and took some photos of our favorite pumpkin carvings. Some are creepy and scary. They are not my favorites because of the subject matter, but because of the talent in the carvings. My favorite was the wolves howling at the moon.

My brother and his family were here visiting this weekend from Georgia, so after we went to Celo, we went to my parents house to spend time with the family. On our way home, we immediately noticed a noise that sounded like a stick in the wheel. It ended up being a plastic tie that my sweet, sweet nephews had put on our car!

Keep in mind that in the last couple weeks, I've spent about $500 on car repairs, so it was not a pleasant feeling when I heard my car making "another" noise! I "thought" that was it for mischief night this year.

Then this morning, I saw my front yard. Some kind soul decided I needed to show some support to the local politicians. In the form of 12 signs in my front yard! Both parties were represented. I've gathered up the signs and tomorrow I'll drop them off at the party headquarter offices.

Hopefully, the "fun" is over for the year. At least it was all harmless. :)

Big shows are over!

I've finished my outdoor shows for the year and am so happy to pack away the tent and tables till next spring. If you do craft shows, you know the feeling of relief. :)
I will be doing a Christmas Ornament show in Burnsville, NC on Nov. 20th, but it is inside and tables are provided. What a blessing!
Here's some photos of my booth set-ups at various shows I did this year. I love meeting all the new customers, and in Erwin, TN, I got to meet some new primitive crafters!

The lady next to me this past weekend told her husband as they were packing up, that her tables were "going to bed until May". What a happy thought!

During the last 21 years, the Apple Harvest Festival has grown to a premier one-day celebration in the charming historic mountain town of Waynesville.

With more than 125 exhibitors and 25,000 people expected, we will gather for a glorious day of color to celebrate the fall harvest. Enjoy a backdrop of the picturesque mountains of Western North Carolina as you celebrate everything apples.

Handmade crafts, local food and continuous live entertainment will delight even the most seasoned visitor during this annual celebration. Entertainment will include local mountain music, cloggers and the occasional character!

Take home a peck of locally grown apples from the county apple growers association.

The Children's Play Area will feature the latest and greatest . Activities, games, and more will be provided. the 21st Annual Apple Harvest Festival featured the Waynesville Police Department ident-a-kid program and the Waynesville Fire Department fire safety demonstrations. This show is always a bitter/sweet one for me. Three years ago, my oldest brother died of cancer the day I did this show. He was in PA in the hospital and I was down here in NC. He passed away at the same time that I was packing up my booth to go home. So, it will forever remind me of that sad day. On the positive side, I sold 47 stitcheries that day. Making it a bitter/sweet memory.

My booth this year will be kind of in front of Mast General Store. Booth #16 c&d. My friend Joy Bennett from The Lace Toadstool will be selling her handbuilt pottery that she makes in her home studio and then presses antique lace into for fabulous, unique pottery treasures. Come see us~we've got a double booth!
And, another friend of mine will be selling her handmade soy candles, soaps and lotions! Martha Young from My Father's Light. I don't know her booth number, but if you start smelling something good (other than the kettle korn), it just might be her booth!

Featured today~~~Extreme Primitive and UGLY Bird Lady DOLL

Now this is one UGLY doll! And, she's pretty lousy at putting on her lipstick! She's a bird lover and a cardinal has actually nested in her blonde sheep's wool hair! The cardinal is made of muslin, then I painted it and sanded it. The bird is sewn onto the dolls head so it won't fly away. :)

"Bird Lady" spends her free time birdwatching. She's wearing a cute, prim jumpsuit and the bodice has willow trees and red birds on it.

Her nose and mouth are needle sculpted. Eyes, cheeks and mouth have been painted. I also painted some shoes on her to complete the outfit.
Now, she's not the prettiest lady on the block, but she would love to help decorate your home!
Take notice of her creepy hands with individual fingers. The pattern I used was for a witch doll, but I decided to alter it a bit since I don't do Halloween stuff, except pumpkins.
"Bird Lady" is handmade by me and measures aprox. 23" tall.
As you can see in the photos, everything has been coffee stained.

Momma holds her baby which is also made from a sock and it's wrapped in a piece of vintage quilt. The baby in quilt is handstitched to the mom's arms.

Both the mom and the baby have cheesecloth wrapped on their heads. Mom's dress is made from a fringed tablecloth and is the only part of the doll that is machine sewn. All other parts of this doll set, were sewn by hand.

The faces are very primitively stitched with embroidery floss. The mother doll has no support for her neck, so her head is floppy. This will not matter when she is sitting or hanging. The doll does not have legs.

I have heavily coffee stained the dolls and their clothing. They are stuffed with fabric scraps for recycling purposes and also for a feel like the old dolls would of been made.

From the top of the head to the bottom of the dress, the mother doll measures aprox. 15" tall. The doll, arms, and baby are all made from one sock.

Today's feature~a Primitive Black Folk Art Doll

Today I'd like you to meet "Miss Faye". She's not a pretty gal, but she does her job well and with pefectly primtive style!
Miss Faye's job is to store your plastic bags from Walmart, grocery stores, etc.

She's made of cotton that I painted and sanded for a worn look. Her dress is made of quilt shop fabric that has roosters on it. The apron is a plaid cotton homespun and I've attached a section of a pancake & waffle mix bag. To add a bit of whimsy and a cinnamon scent, I sewed on a little Raggedy Ann doll that has been primmed up with cinnamon.

Miss Faye's lips are stuffed and then handstitched on. Her nose is needle sculpted and her eyes are handpainted. Her hair is sheep's wool from TN and has been sewn on with tiny stitches to keep it in place.

Great addition to any farmhouse, country kitchen.

She's a pretty big girl, measuring in at aprox. 27" tall.

She is handmade by me, using a You Are Special pattern.

I took a few photos of Moose Crossing & Co. where I've rented a couple shelves. I'm already thinking of expanding to more shelves since I will be closing my store in Burnsville.
The shelves with the stitcheries and dolls is my space. Be sure and stop by Moose Crossing when you're in Spruce Pine, or better yet, do a day trip with the girls for shopping and lunch!

Day One~ Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair photos!

Day one is over and I am totally, completely, 100% exhausted! I signed up for this show at the last minute, so I only had 2 weeks to prepare! I had some stuff already made and in my store, but I worked my butt off (but it's still there) for the last 2 weeks making as much as I could for the show. Even with the things from my store added in, I think my tent looked a little bare. I think as crafters, we "never" think we have enough.

I took some photos for ya to see how great the fair is. You can still come tomorrow (Saturday) from 9:00-5:00. My booth is in front of the library, so stop by and say hello!

This show does have a unique attraction called "Heritage Hollow". Local craftsmen and women set up and demonstrate old time crafting. It's a huge tent and they are in there all day showing folks how to make old timey stuff. Very interesting. Demos include quilting, basket making, candle making, Civil War apparel and camp with costumes, pottery, and more. There's even hay bales to sit on and rest yer feet for a spell. :)

I think the most popular thing today must of been Kettle Korn. I saw TONS of people walking by my tent with bags of kettle korn. Of course I had to get some of my own to join in on the tasty fun. ;-) It's all about the food! To be fair, I had to try a funnel cake too. The popcorn and the funnel cake were both very delicious!!!

All in all, it was a good day. VERY hot at times, cooler and breezy at other times. With the breeze came the scent of BBQ and Kettle Korn! And, it didn't rain!

Aug 6-7: Our 54th Anniversary-The Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair

The Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair in Burnsville, NC. is this weekend, Friday & Saturday 9:00-5:00.
I'll be there selling my handmade primitive crafts! My booth will be in front of the Yancey County Library, booth O-12. I'll have tons of primitive stitcheries and lots of prim dolls, along with some primitive stenciled wood signs, stitched candlemats and penny rugs.

My store - Privies & Prims will also be open at 110 W. Main Street which is right on the edge of where the over 200 crafter tents will be. It's right across from the historic Yancey Theatre.

This fair is a "must see" if you're anywhere close to our area. Definitely worth the drive!

Pets are not allowed in the fair area, but there will be a "doggie jail" just off the square for a small fee.

Sock Snowmen

You've surely heard of sock monkeys, but have you heard of sock snowmen???
Primitive ones of course. :)
About 5 years ago, I bought this snowman at Dollywood from a prim crafter that had a small store set up. I was going to make some.

Finally, I've gotten around to it!

I used a 2x4 scrap for the body (which was leftover from my house remodel), so that they would sit up on their own.

The snowman that is finished, has had a bath with cinnamon, coffee, and vanilla and now he's got to dry. I think I might thin out the 2x4's for the others. Not liking that "block" look.

But aren't they cute?!?

Only five more days to get ready for the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair which is on August 6th & 7th here in Burnsville, NC. If there's any way you can make it, you should come to it. It is BIG!!!

Business is for sale for $5,000 which includes all of my merchandise (mostly made by me), display pieces, and you take over the rent of $150 per month. Probably the lowest rent in Burnsville and it's right in downtown on West Main Street! (no bathroom or heat) Visitor Center is right next door with public bathrooms and portable heaters keep the store nice and cozy in the winter.

I decided to try and make my own logo for a new business name in case I sell my existing business.
I've had Photo Shop for a long time, but didn't know how to use it. With a little help from my facebook friends and LOTS of time and patience, 3 different programs, I was able to make this!
Now, I just have to sell my existing business!

My business in Burnsville is for sale. If it sells, I'm thinking of starting fresh with a new name for shows and online. Somehow, I've come up with the strange name of Bubble Gum Primitives! I've even bought a vintage penny gumball machine to have at shows for the kiddies (and adults).

I know that bubble gum has nothing to do with primitives, but that's the name that God put in my head!

The last two nights we were in PA, we stayed with my sister's oldest son and his wife, in Exton. They were just here in NC a few weeks ago visiting my parents, so we returned the favor. :) They have a daughter that just turned one. Her name is Lyla. The first night we were there, we had dinner with my sister, her three boys and their ladies, and Lyla.
Two weeks ago my son was a long haired hippie dude. Now I think he's looking pretty handsome! That's him in the real coordinated outfit. :)
The dog decided to show his best side. :) There was some discussion as to whether or not to crop it out, but it would of cut off our feet, so I left him on there.

Two days after my nephew and his family left NC, my neice Tammie and her husband came to visit my parents with their 2 month old son Brayden. (my brother on the right)

And my sister's youngest son's wife is due with their first baby in 3 weeks. Look in the group photo and you'll see what they lovingly call, "the belly".

Babies, babies everywhere!
And I keep thinking I hear Lyla on the baby monitor, but I'm in NC and she's in PA!

I'm ready to go back to Lancaster soon. After it cools off a bit. :) And, I refill my bank account! I thought I heard a horse and buggy today coming down the road, but it was just a car rattling.

The "Mud Sale" Amish auction

I'm back home and working on getting rested up from the trip. I drove straight through again and got home at 1:15 this morning after driving for 13 hours. I had to stop often to keep from falling asleep, so it took a little longer than what google maps would tell you. :-) I did get to sleep in a little this morning, then I went to pick up my dogs at the vet, came home and slept some more, then took my son to his dentist appointment. No rest for the weary~ Sure glad to not be in a hotel anymore though.

I've got some more photos to share with ya from the Amish Bird-in-Hand Carriage and Antique Auction that we went to. It was pretty interesting, but still stinking HOT! Since we had already checked out of the hotel, we just hung out at the auction for a few hours under the big tents, then went to some more shops in Intercourse, PA which was right down the road.

You simply MUST watch the short Amish guy at the auction on video. He was comical! I had the camera sitting on my lap, so I don't think he knew that I was filming. Everytime someone bid, he got REAL excited!
The video with the quilts, was to let you see the process they go through. They have a pulley system set up and at the end, the quilts are dropped down, then two older Amish women fold up the quilts and bag them until the buyers pick them up. Quite a system!

I only bought 2 things at the auction, but haven't taken photos of them yet. I'll share them soon, along with the family photos taken at my nephews house.

p.s. The auction's are called "Mud Sales" cause they're usually held in the Spring after the snow thaws, thus creating ~mud~.

Out of Lancaster

I'm a bit behind on my blogging about our Lancaster trip.

Last night we met up with my sister, three nephews and their ladies for dinner at my nephews house. Then we came to one of the other nephews houses to spend a couple nights and we're leaving in the morning to head back to NC.

I can't get a wireless connection on my laptop, so I'll have to post the photos another time. I got some great Amish photos, a family group photo, and some photos of my one year old great niece.

For now, we're resting up in Exton, PA with central air and don't have to be on the run all day, every day. Today I had a great Philly cheesesteak and tonight we're going to Rita's for some italian water ice. Cherry is my favorite!

Day 4 in Lancaster

Started out with breakfast buffet at Dienner's. Very good and great prices! Next door in the same building is Dutchland Quilt Patch. The whole second floor is fabric!!! Yesterday we met a mennonite woman named Sarah in the restaurant. Today, she cut my fabric. Her daughter owns the quilt shop. It's not just quilts though. There's some great prims in there!

Then we went to Primitive's By Kathy warehouse and Keystone Wholesale. Both great places and I got some goodies to add to my handmades in my store!

There's gonna be a "Mud Sale" tomorrow in Bird-in-Hand and we're going! Lots of Amish buggies and antiques. We previewed tonight and I'm sharing some photos of just a few of the awesome prim items so you can drool over them. :) Don't know if I'll buy anything, but it should be fun!

Tonight we went for a drive to see a couple covered bridges. They're pretty spread out, so we only got to two before it was too dark.

Tomorrow morning we check out of the motel, go to the Mud Sale, and then head to my nephews for a family dinner with my sister and her three boys and their gals. We'll stay there overnight, then head home to NC. I miss my doggies!

Day 3 in Lancaster County

I must apologize. We didn't take any photos today. :-(   It is sooooo hot this week that we get out, do what we need to do, and then hurry back into the air conditioned van!

We started out today by eating lunch at Dienner's. It was pretty good, and much lower priced than Miller's. Tomorrow we're going back for the breakfast buffet. We missed breakfast today. It's only $5.49 for the breakfast buffet and Amish work there. We met some people there today from Hickory, NC which is less than 2 hours from where we live! Small world indeed.

We checked out Strasburg today and went back to Intercourse. I talked to 2 shops about buying my crafts, but I have to call them back tomorrow. One lady was off on Wednesday and the other was in a meeting.

I must say that I haven't went into too many of the country shops. Several that we did go in, all carry the same merchandise. I didn't find a lot of unique items. Gorgeous prim stuff, but all the same.   I can go straight to the wholesaler and purchase it myself for a lower price. But some were different. I'm not going in many shops cause I'm traveling with my teenage son and it's just not fun for him. :)

Tonight after a late afternoon nap, we drove to Lititz again, and this time, we fell in love with the town! It was much better at night when the temps were down some.   We went to Roma's Pizza and had a Philly cheesesteak. We could of shared one, cause they are huge!   We both only ate half of one and brought the rest back to the hotel.   My son will probably eat it for breakfast tomorrow. :)   After eating, we walked through town and looked in the shops windows. It's weird to see businesses still open at night. In Burnsville where we live, most everything is closed downtown, except the 2 small restaurants.

So after checking out the houses for sale in my price range, we have both agreed on Lititz. There's lots to do there, it's a gorgeous, small town feel and seems to be very family friendly. Variety of places to eat and shop, and down the road they have a mini-golf and go-carts.   And, very affordable houses. A public swimming pool, beautiful shaded park, and the town looks to be growing. New shopping centers, and new housing going up. Now we have to go back home and get our house ready to put up for sale.

I'll be sure and take some photos tomorrow. We're going back to Lititz to tour the pretzel bakery and maybe the chocolate factory.

Day 2 in Lancaster County

Our first stop today was the Central Market in downtown Lancaster. Then we went to the Visitor's Center next door. They have a museum upstairs with gorgeous Amish history.

Visited an art school for Darren. Going back on Friday for Open House.
They have a nice gallery with student work on display.

We also visited the local community college which is where he'll probably start out for the basic classes.

It was late when we went to Intercourse and the shops were closed. We're for sure going back in the morning! I LOVE that place!!! Sooooo many shops to go in! And lots and lots of Amish around.

I thought I would want to live in Lititz, but it was pretty much like where I live now and a little further from things than I want to be.

Tomorrow we'll go to Intercourse again and maybe Strasburg if it's not too late.

We hit a horrible storm today. Turned on the radio and they were doing an emergency broadcast for a tornado warning! So, here we were in the middle of Amish farms, flat land, and a little less than 2 miles from our destination, which was CDM Wholesale warehouse. We made it there safely, but it was a creepy thing to look across the corn fields watching for a tornado! When we came out of the warehouse, the sun was shining. I didn't buy anything. I just wanted to browse. While we're here, I will also be checking out Primitives By Kathy, and Keystone Wholesale.

So much to do!

Lancaster, PA vacation happenings! Day 1

My son and I are on vacation in PA Amish country! We came here to check out things for a move here after Christmas!

I'll share our journey with you each day, so you can travel along with us.

I drove for 13 hours yesterday! We had planned to spend the night in VA, but I decided to push myself and drive straight through. And, I made it! with lots of bathroom stops. ;)

mini- folk art black dolls finished

I finished up some of my mini primitive black dolls. Since I didn't use a pattern, they just sort of evolved as I went along. Change fabric, add button & lace. Ta-da! They're done!

I haven't gotten much done lately. I've had some complications from my recent surgery, so I'm "trying" to take it easy. It's so hard when there's so much I want to do! I go back to the dr. on Tuesday, so hopefully I will get fixed up for good.

I was planning to take a week long trip to Lancaster, Pa on Thursday, but it looks like that will be delayed for a couple weeks until I am all better. I'm so anxious to go and check out all the primitive shops and the cute towns. Patience, patience. :)

Girls Day Out!

Today I went out with a few friends and my mom for a "girl's day out".   We went to a fabric store on a back road along a river, pretty much in the middle of no where. How do people find it?

The lady has been there for 30+ years and had steady customers while we were there!

And, a black snake was making himself at home under the porch steps. My mom came in and said, "is that snake real"?   The rest of us had stepped very near to him and didn't even see it! He went back in his hole under the steps and all was well.

I left the store with this bunch of fabric for only $10!!! Most of the cottons were only $3.98 a yard! Many that I have seen at Walmart before. We went to Walmart later and their prices were higher than the fabric stores and the selection was worse. I WILL be going back to the fabric store again!

It's less than 1/2 hour from my house, outside Marshall, NC. It's called "Stitch & Save Fabric Shop". Just a small building that you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it. One of the girls that was with us had been there before, so she led the way. The address is 1182 NC Hwy. 251, Marshall, NC 28753. You can google directions. There is no website or email. The phone number is 828-649-3721. Certainly check it out if you're in the area! She also has embroidery floss, quilt batting, and quilt kits.

Cutesy School Girl doll

Yesterday at the craft show, a customer wanted to custom order a doll an 8 year old girl. No face and no coffee staining. Blonde hair. The rest was up to me.

I went through my patterns and decided to use a doll pattern from Sweet Meadows Farm called "Mamma's Breakfast". I made her with tan muslin since I couldn't coffee stain her. I have so much fabric that I've been trying to use up what I have, without buying more. I thought a school print fabric would work great for an 8 year old girl. And, I gave her an apron so she has something to dress her with. I haven't attached the name tag yet cause I can't find my hole puncher.

Cutesy dolls are NOT my favorite dolls to make. I really like primitives MUCH better. But, who am I to turn down an offer for money??? Especially with vacation coming up next week!

I have a bunch of prim black dolls in the works and STILL have to finish up the boy dolls. They're waiting soooooo patiently. :)

Burnsville Spring Craft Show on Saturday, May 29th from 10:00-4:00.

Once again, you can come to Burnsville on Memorial Day weekend and enjoy a small town craft show!

The 2010 Burnsville Spring Arts Festival will be Saturday, May 29th from 10:00-4:00.

This year the show will be held inside the comfort of the Burnsville Town Center auditorium. Air conditioned comfort with clean bathrooms and a snack stand selling hot dogs and nachos to benefit Relay for Life!

While you're there for the craft show, you can also enjoy the third annual Hero Day on the Burnsville Town Square. This years ceremony will focus on Hospice of Yancey County for their work in the community. Also the MAYDAY Foundation will be doing their annual "kid's day" activities which will include fun things for children making it a great family day for all ages between the three things going on.

And, shop for yummy local goodies at the Yancey County Farmer's Market outside until noon.

A full day of family fun enjoying our quaint mountain town of Burnsville.

And, there's no admission fee! Dad can join the kids at the children's activities on the square while mom shops at the craft show! When it's time to take a break from the activities, spread out your blanket under the shade tree and enjoy some great mountain music. For FREE!

I guess I've been a bit MIA in blog land lately.

I did end up paying Verizon more than I thought I owed, but could NOT live without my dsl!! And how could I miss American Idol??? They've got us hooked. I will still get my credits and when everything is through, I will drop them. For now, I pay more than I think I should have to.

On to better things! I'm working on a batch of black dolls, but keep getting sidetracked. I never did finish up the sailor boy dolls and now I've decided to do something completely different with them. That happens often. :) One of them will be "Tiger Junior". What Tiger Woods son ~might~ look like. ;-)

For 2-1/2 days, I was doing a punch needle project while at my store. I finally finished it yesterday and now just have to frame it. I don't wanna do big ones anymore!!!

Monday morning, I will have some girly surgery done which will put me out of work for a week. I'm thinkin' that they can't stop me from stitchin and punchin though! Next Saturday is the Burnsville Spring Craft Show, so I'll be getting some help with the loading and unloading there. I'm the organizer, so I gotta do it!

Right now, I've got 20 minutes to get to work and I'm not ready. Soooooo, it's goodbye for now.

Don't bundle with Verizon!!!

Ever since I moved last fall, Verizon and Direct TV have messed up my billing. I have to call every month and tell them it's wrong. They credit most of it, but it takes 2 billing cycles for the TV credits to show up at Verizon. In the mean time, Verizon wants their money. So, this morning they cut off my tv and internet. Friday, they said they noted the account that credits were coming, so that it wouldn't get shut off. Wrong! They forgot to tell the computer that shuts it off.

They SAY I owe them over $400. Over $200 of that being past due charges. I say I owe them less than $100. I was going to refuse to pay it, but then it goes to collection and my credit goes bad.

Did you know that when you have a bundle that you're committed for a certain length of time? Did you know that if you cancel that bundle,that there's a $120 fee??? If you cancel Direct TV before the contract is up, they charge you $20 for each month until the end of the contract???

Ask about these things. I know I will in the future. So, I'm stuck with all the services unless I pay the penalty fees. I may just pay them and get out of it all. Just use my cell phone and get wireless internet from a local company. I would save money, except for the penalty fees.

If I seperate the tv from Verizon on billing, the credits from Direct TV won't get to me through Verizon, so I would be forfeiting them. Unless I wait a couple months for them to process.

I am soooo frustrated with all this. So today I picked up a disk for a free month of Netzero dial-up. No contract. At least I have something until I decide to pay Verizon the money I DON'T owe them!

Do not, I repeat, do NOT bundle! I am stuck for now. I suppose I should just pay them.

Military BackPack ~World War II ???

This was in our attic when we bought our house. We've been told that it is a military backpack and that it may be from World War 1 or World War 2. It does have U.S. on it.

The home's previous owner was a retired Navy man.

It's aprox. 31" high and 15" wide.

We're looking for information on when it may have been issued and an approximate $ value.

It's prom weekend for my niece and she asked me to take her photographs.

Some were taken in a cabin that my father built and the others were taken at Mountain Air Country Club where her boyfriend lives. It started raining on our way up the mountain, so we didn't get all the scenery that she wanted. In the one photo, you can see the runway in the background.

There were lots of good ones, but these are my favorites~~~

Waiting patiently for their clothes. I cut out most of their clothes tonight and will be sewing them within the next couple days. The white dolls will be sailor boys with newspaper hats and toy sailboats made of fabric!

My lap dog babies~

Well, they're not really babies, but they're still "my" babies. Shorty (4) and Annie (2) are Dachshunds and Fluffy (11) is a Peke/Chi mix. All three are spoiled rotten.

My son was taking photos for a digital photography class and shot these photos of the dogs.

Fluffy was having a bad hair day cause her momma cuts her hair now instead of taking her to the groomer. Her momma is poor. :)

Something personal

I'm gonna get a little personal here, so guys, please leave the room. :)

I had a gastrograph today. Horrible prep yesterday, along with fasting. The worst part was what I had to drink.

They got the test started today and the pain was so bad that I almost blacked out. My hands started tingling and going numb, then my legs, feet, stomach, and then my mouth. I was tongue tied and coudn't talk right. My hands were all curled up and I coudn't move my thumbs. It was scary and horrible. I was on the edge of passing out. So, they quickly took me to ER.

Don't know the test results yet, but it was a nightmare day! they had to stop the test and take me to the ER cause I had a reaction to the pain and went into contractions and hyperventilating. They said I was having contractions, a spell and hyperventilating.

They gave me something under my tongue in ER to calm me down and stop the hyperventilating. They also did an EKG and blood work. All was fine except my potassium was low and they gave me an Rx for that.

Honestly, my first thought was that if my hands stayed curled up like that, that I wouldn't be able to create my dolls and stitcheries anymore! That would be horrible to me, so I was thrilled when it started to go away.

Never in my life do I want to go through that again. Anything close to it, I will tell them to sedate me.

After all this, I rewarded myself at the hospital coffee shop with a strawberry/banana smoothie. :0)

Now, I wait for the test results and see if I have to have surgery.

I told ya this was personal. I'll get busy doing some needle punch so I can talk about something else next time. :)

I have finally figured out that I'm trying to do too much stuff. I feel like I have to make everything I see! When I started making penny rugs, which was early on in 2009, I went crazy and bought a humongous amount of wool felt. Then I felted it all in hot water and tried to find places to store it. Now, I have decided to sell it. I don't do many penny rugs anymore cause I'm having so much fun making other stuff! I have priced it to go fast, so don't wait too long or it will be gone!

I listed 4 colors tonight and will list more as the days allow. If you want it all, I'll measure it out and give you a total. I've got it stashed everywhere!

Punch Needle kits, Dachshund pattern, bad cooking, and bargains~

I feel like I've been out of touch for a while, so here's a quick rundown of what's been going on around here. Just some of it mind you. I won't bore you with everything just yet. :)

I got a new shipment of Cameo punch needle sets. Available in my etsy shoppe, or my store in Burnsville.

Darn, this stuff looked so good! I made it ahead of time to take on our camping trip. Didn't taste near as good as it looked. Too much pepper and the taters weren't done. Needed salt. Trashed it.

My first try at those "kabob" thingys. Pork was dry, pineapples and tomatoes were great! Skewers burnt and broke. Not doing this again. My Sweet Annie. She chews up sticks and leaves.

In the living room! It's a good thing she's so cute!

Got an insulated storm door for $20! Dad and Darren installed it after dad put the doggy door in for me. Now gotta add the hardware. This is my new punch needle pattern design. Looks like Annie huh! I do love the little gal. I actually have two Dachshunds. :)

This pattern will be available in the next few days. Just need to frame it and type up the directions.

I'm working on painting and antiquing frames tonight and some round head snowman ornaments for an order. I have about 40 stitcheries finished and waiting for frames.

Some of them I am going to make up as patterns.

I coffee stained the Amish corn cob dolls and got them listed on etsy and ebay. I put up a poll for a couple days and the majority vote was to leave them faceless. If you'd like to buy some, click on the photo~

I had to take the polls off my blog for awhile cause someone was clicking on them just for fun and not voting. Filled up my inbox, so I just took them off. Some people have nothing better to do than to be a pain to others. :(

Amish Corn Cob Dolls

I made something "new to me" today. I took some corn cobs that I had from other crafts and made some Amish dolls!

So now, my question is....do I put faces on them or leave them faceless? I will be coffee staining them.

I've got "Hannah" almost finished, but I feel like she's still missing something. Besides her mouth. :)
Should I put shoes and socks on her, or leave her barefoot? Do you like the embroidery addition, or should I get rid of it? It's so hard for me to make something so plain!

Suggestions are welcome! And anything you know of to keep lint from sticking to the black cotton would be greatly appreciated!

I've decided to make her Amish, so we shall call her "Hannah".

In this first photo, Hannah is spending some time at the primitive doll tanning booth. :)

After getting her grunge tan, Hannah made a new dress from pale yellow fabric. No prints for the Amish. Plain through and through. She is sooooo big that she looks right at home in my recliner! Kind of creepy really.

She hasn't made her apron or bonnet yet, but they're a coming! And of course, all her clothing will also be grunged. The dress will spend tonight soaking in a fresh tub of coffee/vanilla mixture.
Hannah also needs some hair and a mouth. I know that some people make Amish dolls without faces, but I decided to give her a very prim face.
I forgot to put the bra on her. I don't really think she needs it, so I'll keep that for another doll. Amish don't like to show their "features", so I'll not add anything to her body.
